PLAYER UMPIRES IN THE 1st XIs

Date: 25th June 2014

......full respect for them is mandatory.......

A posting here made on the 20th June made clear we are experiencing what is we hope a temporary a shortage of official MCUA umpires.

On Saturday 21st June each 1st XI game in the Second Division had only one umpire. This coming week there are currently 2 vacancies and, at the moment, there are 4 vacancies for the games on the 5th July.

In the circumstances Clubs are reminded about Playing Regulation 8.2.2 on page 16 of the MiL&DCC Rules and Regulations Handbook which states that: "if a player umpire is necessary, a senior player should be used whenever possible and should be at least 18 years old."

Although this rule was written with 2nd and 3rd XIs in mind, it is appropriate that, given the current situation, this Playing Regulation should now also be applied to 1st XI matches.

Where this happens it is vital that the player umpire positioned always at strikers end is given the same respect as the official umpire and that his decisions are accepted without question. Failure to do this will result in full disciplinary action being taken against any offending player(s).
