HEALTH CARE INSURANCE FOR OVERSEAS PLAYERS IN 2016

Date: 10th January 2016

It's different this year

Clubs that are using overseas players in 2016 need to check the following as a matter of urgency as the Law has changed.

This is already on our website(http://www.lpoolcomp.co.uk/news.php?id=2448 ) and is further precise legal guidance from the League Cricket Conference legal eagle on the need for Health Cover Insurance for overseas players coming here from countries that do not have reciprocal health care arrangements. The advice is based on "uksi_20150238" which is made available to clubs in full via the link below; many clubs may choose simply to look at the legal guidance that is based on this legislation - again via a link below.

This is identical to the requirement for UK residents to do this when they go to countries that have no reciprocal  arrangements eg UK residents going to the USA.

Exactly which countries are covered is set out in detail in the guidance.

ECB is looking at this as well.

Another point to grasp is that under this legislation it’s not just the Cat 3 (Not Exempts) that are affected by this tightening up of the regulations.

Free NHS cover does not start until there has been 7 years of payment into the UK health care system so Cat 3 (Exempt) i.e. 18-24 months resident and some of the residence qualified Cat 1s (the ones we call Cat 1b) i.e.  > 48 months resident, are affected as well.
