MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE IMPOSE TWO WEEK BAN

Date: 18th September 2016

A malpractice complaint against St Helens Town 3rd XI was upheld by the Management Committee at its meeting on September 12th.

In the match between Fleetwood Hesketh 3 and St Helens Town 3 on 14th August two of the St Helens Town players were fraudulently entered on the team sheet under the names of other registered players.  The two who played were ineligible.

The St Helens Town captain admitted entering the wrong names having been let down by several selected players as the team met to travel.  He apologised for his actions.

The Management Committee had no alternative but to award the match to Fleetwood Hesketh 3 who receive 25 points.  St Helens Town lose 10 points.

The Committee appreciated that captains are often put under extreme pressure to field eleven players but there is no excuse for cheating and further punishment was appropriate.  The team will be fined £75 and the captain, Liam Bowyer, will be banned from playing for the first two matches of the 2017 season.
