Lashings World X1 - 176 for 6. Lou Vincent 83; L&DCC SELECT XI - 155 for 8. Aaron Redmond 55. ( 20 ovs)
Despite the constant rain (although it wasn't quite lashing down!) cricket fans from all around Merseyside and the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition were treated to an exhibition of superb cricket as Lashings World XI arrived at Formby. Umpires Neil Edwards and Ray Partington deserve lots of praise for perseverance as the team of test superstars proved too strong for the local side in a game, accompanied by the wonderful commentary of Henry Blofeld, reduced to a 20/20 contest.
After Nicky Caunce had removed Ian Butler quicky followed by Jimmy Dixon bagging Wasim Jaffer, it looked like an upset was on the cards but Lou Vincent's hard hitting 83, with good support from Alan Wells, saw the Lashings XI reach 176.
The L&DCC reply was always just behind the required run rate despite an excellent 55 from skipper Aaron Redmond who received support from Jay Lenton and Mark Williams. A late flurry from Elliott Keteringham gave the hosts some hope but a truly remarkable spell from the Lashings "star of the day" (a place in the team auctioned off at the preceding lunch) finished them off.
A great day ended with both sides warmly congratulating each other and the young man that had made it all possible, Tom Mills, receiving the Lashings Flag from John (JK) Lever - Team Manager.
