CAPTAINS CONFERENCE - A brief report

Wide and varied input for Comp skippers.

First team captains, senior players, Umpires Association and League officials were well represented at the first ever Med Imaging L&DCC Captain’s Conference held at Bootle CC today (16 March).

They heard keynote sessions from John Stanworh, LCCC Academy Director who gave a fascinating insight into the workings of the County’s Academy and EPP programme, following this up with an interactive session on captaincy, identifying the different types of individuals that make up a team.

The skippers heard from MCUA President Dave Jones about the newly revised captains/umpires marking system and Ray Rigby took everyone on a whistle-stop tour of the new laws to be introduced in 2014 including the “Finn” Law.

Acting Director of the Lancashire Cricket Board Bobby Denning had started proceedings by outlining recent changes at the LCB, emphasising the significant engagement exercise they were now undertaking with Leagues and clubs. He also set out the help available to clubs from the LCB.

Mark Boyns from the ‘Opening Up’ Programme outlined the details of the newly established mental health awareness campaign launched in memory of young cricketer, Alex Miller. He invited clubs to host awareness sessions throughout the coming season with a view to highlighting important issues and signposting help available.

The day also included information on league rule changes voted in at the recent AGM, new initiatives for the 2014 season and an opportunity for those present to have a say on the running of the Comp.
