CALDY INSPIRED BY IMPROVED FACILITIES - SKIPPER HOPEFUL OF A BIG SEASON

Date: 5th April 2014

Hard work brings rewards

Caldy Cricket Club, having worked steadily over the last few years to improve their facilities, are now beginning to see the fruits of their labours. The club has installed a state of the art electronic score box, a new mobile net cage, a new artificial match track, a new waterhog and a top quality new artificial training/net area. All this has been possible through the dedication and hard work of Chairman David Brown and his Committee together with a few special donations and contributions along the way.

Club Captain Rich Battersby is, understandably, looking forward to the 2014 season with renewed vigour. He is delighted with the improved set up but also sees it as a bigger challenge. “I can’t now use the old excuse of the training facilities not being any good so the pressure is on to start performing on the field” he said. “The disappointments of last season have long passed but the memories are still fresh for me.  I am working hard to ensure that as a first team we finally achieve some of our true potential”.

In a bold moment he also believes that Caldy will “finish in the top two this year” and if the team performs with the same improvement level as their facilities then no one will argue.

Chris Edwards, a former ECB cricketer of the year, has been officially appointed club coach; Dan Hargreaves returns from premature retirement and James Ashcroft, fresh from his cheerleading studies in the USA, is back on-board.  New signing Simon Simcox is an all-rounder from Upton CC and everyone at Caldy is delighted to welcome back Haroon Khan, now firmly part of the Caldy family.

Battersby also reports the signings of two young Australians.  Brynley Richards (23) from New South Wales, a fast/medium bowler and top order batsman will be with the 1st X1 whilst David Short (23) also from New South Wales is a left arm swing bowler and is to be registered with the 2nd X1.
