HAMISH KINGSTON RETURNS TO LEIGH

Date: 3rd April 2014

Tasmanian arrives next week

Leigh CC have formally announced that Hamish Kingston is rejoining them for the 2014 season.

The full story from  their website is as follows:

Preparations for the new season at Leigh CC continue at a pace, and we are delighted to confirm the 2014 return of our Tasmanian all-round quick, Hamish Kingston, who will fly into town next week.

Fresh from a successful summer in Australia with Tasmania “A” and U23’s, Hamish becomes the first  overseas player to be re-engaged by Leigh for consecutive seasons and he will be looking to build on his impressive figures in 2013 when he scored over 800 runs and took close on 50 wickets.

The 23 year old has impressed many a good judge during the winter, with a century against Canterbury as well as five and seven wicket hauls in the Cricket Tasmania Premier League Finals v’s Glenorchy and Lindisfarne.

After finishing his domestic season with 43 wickets and 437 runs with the bat, Mish’s achievements were recognised at the league awards where he was nominated in the team of the year as well as narrowly missing out on the Emerson Rodwell medal. (This incidentally was won by another ex-Leigh player, Jonathan Wells)

Hamish will of course need to make the transition from the hard, bouncy Aussie wickets to sticky, soggy English ones as soon as possible. However his previous experiences with the club (this is his third season at Beech Walk) will no doubt stand him in good stead.

A club spokesman said: -

“It’s great to have Mish back with us again. Over previous years we’ve seen him develop from a raw rookie into a seriously talented young cricketer and it’s been a pleasure to watch his development at close quarters.

He will complement the existing young local talent we have in our strengthened 1st XI squad and with his extra yard of pace he’ll give anyone the hurry-up on his day.

Training has gone extremely well and now that Ross Zelem has also landed from his trip down under, we will have our full squad available for our initial league games at Southport and Fleetwood Hesketh. Everyone is now just eagerly waiting the start and hopefully the rain will stay away.”
