Fleetwood Hesketh skipper Lee Rimmer is hoping that new signing Aaron Halsall will supply the cutting edge needed to remove both established batsmen and obstinate tailenders in the ECB Premier League this season.
Halsall has rejoined the Sea Cop club from Hightown and his recruitment puts a powerful pace attack at Rimmer’s disposal before he deploys the left-arm spin of South African professional Ulrich van Duyker, who is due to arrive two days before the league season begins.
“I’m a big fan of Aaron’s bowling,” said Rimmer. “He rushes batters and he can be very destructive. I’m very pleased to have added him to the squad.”
Rimmer is also content to go into the competitive season this week without the benefit of any warm-up games. Fleetwood Hesketh host Birkenhead Park in an all Premier League clash in a second-round Ray Digman Trophy tie on Saturday but the Marshside skipper believes that intensive net sessions have been sufficient to ready his players for that test.
“Nets have been well-attended and we are all very excited by the arrival of the new season,” he said. “I have a full squad available and there is a real buzz about the club. The game against Birkenhead Park will be a very good challenge for us but I am happy enough to go straight into it.”
