NEW BRIGHTON CLOSE ON LEADERS WITH WIN OVER BOOTLE AS LAST PAIR DENY ORMSKIRK AT SEA COP

Date: 2nd August 2014

Prestatyn win battle of Division 2 to go top

PREMIER DIVISION

New Brighton closed the gap at the top with  Ormskirk by virtue of a five wicket win against Bootle. David While took 5 for 25 in dismissing Bootle for 135 and Andrew Clarke’s 70 not out secured the win.

* NB The Play Cricket table needs amending as for some reason the Ormskirk 5 points gained in their draw have not been added/shown up on the table. This will be amended through the Assistant Results Secretary and the clubs concerned.

Meanwhile after a magnificent mopping up operation at Sea Cop Ormskirk just failed to take the last Fleetwood Hesketh wicket as Mathew Collins and Craig Todd held out for a draw.

DIVISION ONE

With Highfield, Wigan and Rainford all hit by the rain, Formby just failed to take advantage in an exciting encounter against Ainsdale. In the end it was Ainsdale, finishing on 159 for 8 in response to Formby’s 161 for 6, who almost collected full points.

DIVISION TWO

Prestatyn won the top of the table clash against St Helens and now go top after a commanding eight wicket win. Sampath Perera did the damage with 8 for 12 as St Helens were bowled out for 103.

Elsewhere there were wins for Alder by two wickets over Sutton and Caldy by five wickets at Hightown.
