S+D League President passes away.

It is with sadness that we report the passing away of Robert (Bob) Metcalf, President of the Southport and District Amateur Cricket League. (SDACL)

Bob died suddenly on Saturday 30 August whilst watching his beloved New Victoria CC play against Goose Green, a game which was immediately abandoned.

Bob, a founder member, Chairman and President of New Victoria and a member of the Sefton Sports Council, has been active in promoting and working for all sports in the Sefton Area, particularly cricket. A long time official of the SDACL he was the umpire’s secretary for 15 years and was a key member of the small group of individuals from the SDACL working with the Liverpool Competition to establish a pyramid and feeder system across the area.

Bob worked tirelessly for his club, his league, his community and for others. Above all he was the kindest of men who always had time for everyone he met.

We extend our sympathy and prayers to Bob’s wife Elizabeth and to his two daughters and their families.

Southport Crematorium followed by a service to celebrate Bob’s life at St Cuthbert’s Church, Botanic Rd, Southport. PR9 7NA.
