MAGHULL MOURN LOSS OF TWO STALWARTS - updated

Date: 30th December 2014

Iain Howie and Ken Bell pass away

Members and Players at Maghull Cricket Club are mourning the sad loss of two of their number over the Christmas Period.

IAIN HOWIE (77) passed away after a long debilitating illness and will be remembered as the highest run scorer in the club’s history with over 15,000 runs. Iain studied at Lancaster Royal Grammar School and Liverpool University and began his cricketing career at Formby where he played for five years before moving to Maghull where he captained the 1st X1 in three spells and carried on playing until his early 60’s. Regarded as a true gentleman he also played for Waterloo Rugby Club.We extend our sympathies to Iain’s wife Jan and his four children.

The Funeral Service is to be held on Wednesday 14 January at St Andrew's Church, Damfield Lane, Maghull. L31 6DD

KEN BELL was a true club stalwart and will be known to many from his work with Maghull Junior teams in the Southport and District Junior League where, together with his son, Dave, he worked tirelessly. Ken stood in the S+D league as a qualified league umpire before umpiring Maghull’s 3rd X1 for many years.

We extend our sympathies to Dave and all family and friends.
