Just one game after making his first class debut 18-year-old Matt Critchley became the youngest Derbyshire player ever to score a first-class century in the LV Championship game against Northamptonshire.

The Wigan all-rounder scored an unbeaten 137 off 179 balls including 16 fours and 2 sixes and shared a 162 run eighth wicket stand helping Derbyshire recover from 151 for 7 to finish on 343 all out.

Speaking after his innings Matt said " I just tried to play my natural game. The runs gradually came and when i reached a hundred it was the best feeling ever. It was only when walking off at the end that I really realised what i had done". When asked what happens next the youngster said " we try to bowl them out tomorrow".
