League responds to clubs having difficulties.

It seems that the weather has beaten some of the MI Dental Liverpool and District Cricket Competition Clubs in the race to the start of the 2016 cricket season. A particularly wet winter followed by rain in the crucial weeks immediately prior to the off have left a number of grounds significantly short of preparation.

Following news from several clubs that groundsmen have been unable to access the playing area to undertake sufficient work to prepare pitches of appropriate and safe standards, as well as one or two grounds still with lying water, the League has agreed that clubs may rearrange this Saturday’s 1st and 2nd X1 cup-ties if they need to. Those clubs able to prepare their grounds in the normal manner will continue as scheduled and the games will take place.

L&DCC Chairman John Williams said “Fortunately our opening Saturday has featured the first round of cup-ties for some time now and we are able to do this without too much disruption. The next round is not until June. There are some preliminary round games requiring completion a bit earlier but there is still plenty of time for them as well. We received a number of calls over the weekend from clubs telling us about their difficulties and we have been able to act to give them more time. Importantly, those clubs not specifically affected can go ahead and start on time”.
