SATURDAYS RAY DIGMAN AND CHESTER CUP RESULTS

Digman wins for Ainsdale, Maghull, Highfield,Lytham and Southport Trinity who complete a double over Sutton

In the small number of cup games played on Day One of the season there were Ray Digman Trophy wins for Maghull, Highfield, Lytham and Southport Trinity.

New boys Trinity hosted both Sutton teams at their Rookery ground and their first string recorded a 13 run win over the visitors. Shaun Robson top scored with 50 in their total of 122 before the evergreen Tony Campbell did the damage, taking 4 for 26. Young Taylor Cornall hit 46 not out on his Lytham debut as the Fylde Coast side passed Prestatyn’s total of 104 all out without losing a wicket.

Highfield scored a comprehensive nine wicket win at Alder with Robert Halliwell’s 6 for 15 instrumental in dismissing the home side for 108. Tom Ashton, with 42 not out, steered Highfield home.  Maghull edged home by three wickets over Liverpool with Joe Dunne scoring 47 not out after bowling the Aigburth outfit out for 194. Ainsdale recorded a two wicket win at home to St Helens Town.

In the Chester Cup, Northern 2nds triumphed over Bootle 2nds by five wickets after Shaun Hornby’s 66 had helped Bootle post 176. Fifties from both Mark Garcia and Scott Snaylam ensured the win for Northern. Formby 2nds had a 36 run win over Wallasey with Oli Gallagher top scoring with 70 in their total of 184. Southport and Birkdale 2nds recorded a seven wicket win at Trafalgar road against Rainford and Southport Trinity’s 2’s completed the double over Sutton.
