RAY DIGMAN: Northop Hall too good for New Brighton and Formby beat Wallasey.

Northern sit on top of the Premier Division after a thrilling three run win at home to Birkenhead Park. After declaring on 186-6 (Ryan Maddock 50) James Cole stumped last man Matty Shaw off Tom Sephton (6-72) to give his side victory. Rainhill are the only other side with a 100% record after recovering from being dismissed by New Brighton for 106 by bowling out the Champions for 81. Mohammad Qureshi carried on from where he left off last season with      6-12 off 21 overs.  

Ormskirk bounced back from last week’s setback with a convincing eight wicket win at Rainford with Gavin Griffiths in fine form with 4 for 20. Leigh chased down Bootle’s 191-6 declared in which Michael Farrell hit an unbeaten 100, with Mattie McKiernan (67) and Adam Shallcross (62) leading the way. Colwyn Bay had a three wicket win at Wallasey after bowling the home side out for 186 for whom Thomas Russ hit 108, his second successive century. Paul Jenkins bagged 5-32 for the winners. A team effort saw the Bay to victory.  Formby’s top four all fired as they piled up 247-2 at Lytham with Tym Crawford top scoring with 76 and Ian Cockbain (Jnr) hitting 66. The home side batted through for a draw with Taylor Cornall contributing 57.

In Division 1 Highfield and Burscough have two wins with Highfield recording a three wicket win at home to Southport and Birkdale after Saud Shakeel (5-17) had helped dismiss the visitors for 107. Joel Welsby’s 33 not out guided Highfield home. Burscough bowled Orrell out for 81 (Navdeep Anja 4-11) and then won by four wickets.

Newton Le Willows scored a decisive 74 run win at Ainsdale after Liam Jenkins had top scored with 51 in their 168 for 7 declared. Danny Barlow took 4-40 as the home side were dismissed for 94. Prestatyn had an excellent win at Beach Close after Maghull (Greg Gillespie 67) and (Jack Wriggleswotth53) set them a target of 224 to win. Sampath Perara (62) and Joe Horton (49) led the winning chase. Fleetwood Hesketh bowled out Wigan (Aaron Redmond 50) for 148 with Tommy Wareing snaffling 4-10 before Marasinghe Perera’s 67 not out helped them to an eight wicket success. Sefton Park disposed of Northop Hall bowling them out for58 after Sean Vandome (60) and Jameel Stuart (56no) had helped them to a total of 190-7 declared.

St Helens Town have a maximum 50 points at the top of Division 2 after a big win at Hightown. Danny Roberts (78no) and Craig Woods (49) enabled a declaration at 220-7 before the home side were dismissed for 94. Ian Jenions taking 5-14. Parkfield Liscard recorded a second success, winning by 5 wickets at Alder with a major contribution from Interdip Singh taking 5-37 and then scoring 54. Skelmersdale won by 88 runs at Southport Trinity with 54 from Ryan Maloney and 6-8 from Danny Edwards. Saif Ur Rehman helped Spring View to a 64 run win at Wavertree with 5-23 and 49 whilst Liverpool and Old Xaverians fought out an exciting draw. After Liverpool had made 220, (Henry Charlton 51) and Josh Dilworth 5-53, Old Xavs, with Dilworth making 58, just hung on with the last wicket intact. Sutton v Caldy was cancelled.
