All best wishes to Martyn Evans

Martyn Evans is to undergo a knee operation on Saturday and has been succeeded as New Brighton skipper by Mark Rowland. Evans, who led his team to their first title since 1998 last year sustained the serious injury in April and no date has been set for his return.
Tim Watkins, the chairman of cricket at New Brighton, sent the following statement to members on Friday.

‘Following the season-ending injury that 1st X1 captain, Martyn Evans, sustained in April the cricket management committee met on Thursday 19th May to discuss future cricketing arrangements.

It was unanimously agreed that Mark Rowland be invited to assume the role of Captain until the end of the 2016 season. I am delighted to report that Mark has agreed to take over Martyn's responsibilities from the end of May.

‘His first game in charge will be the Bank Holiday Monday fixture at Wallasey CC and I am sure that everyone at the Club will join the committee in  wishing Mark every success for the remainder of the year. It goes without saying that the committee wish to place on record our thanks for the time Martyn has spent as first team captain and hope that the knee operation he is undergoing on Saturday gets him back on the playing fields quickly and safely.’

* We also wish Martyn all the very best and hope that he has a successful operation and recovery.
