GREAT ANTICIPATION AND GIN AT CRICKET PATH AS NEW SEASON GETS UNDERWAY

Guide to some new arrivals and a full list of 1st X1 fixtures.

There is perhaps more than the usual air of excitement within the Premier Division on the first day of the new Liverpool Gin Liverpool Competition season with the twelve teams having spent most of the winter months planning and strengthening their squads. Certainly it will be an interesting first day at school for a number of new players in each of the six fixtures, all of which are difficult to call.

Our sponsors Liverpool Gin will be marking the start of the season and their sponsorship, with a Gin Bar at Formby cricket Club, operating between 4.30 and 7pm, where Ormskirk are the visitors.   Other clubs and venues will be visited during the season. New boys on display at the cricket path include Sam Oldham for the home side and Gary Knight and talented spin bowler Alex Mason for Ormskirk.

Promoted side Ainsdale have Indian opener Faiz Fazal in their ranks as they host Colwyn Bay, for whom Will Higginson makes his debut having transferred from Northop Hall. Champions Leigh entertain New Brighton having re-signed Steven Mullaney whilst Mark Hale has returned to New Brighton after a season at Denby Dale. Another prodigal is Danny Edwards returning to Lytham, after a brief spell at Skelmersdale. Joining him at Church Road to take on Northern this Saturday, is the promising Josh Holden from Freckleton. Northern have been busy in the closed season and have Tom Bailey returning as well as the signings of Tom Jones from Ainsdale and Chris Laker from Delph and Dobcross.

Newly promoted Southport and Birkdale begin at home against Rainhill with the eye-catching signings of Chris Cunningham, Ashley MacDonald and yet another returner in Josh Hine all from Bootle together with the acquisition of wicketkeeper Bradley Yates from Urmston. Rainhill have the almost impossible task of replacing Mohammad Quereshi but are having a decent try with the signing of India A slow left arm bowler Ashay Darekar.

The final game sees Wallasey, with new signings Chris Davies from Birkenhead Park and Josh Rylance from New Brighton, hosting Bootle. The Wadham Road outfit have also had a busy winter with signings of Vishal Tripathi from Burnley and Will Purser from Bamford Fieldhouse and are pleased to have Australian Jackson Knight returning for a third year.
