DUAL REGISTRATION SCHEME HAILED A GREAT SUCCESS

Date: 28th September 2018

Facility to play in both the Comp and S+D League to continue.

The first and pilot year of the Dual Registration scheme agreed between the Liverpool Competition and the Southport and District League has been hailed as a great success by Southport and District Chairman Henry Roberts.

The recent Feeder League meeting between the two leagues was told that a total of 76 players had become dual registered with clubs in both leagues, with 53 players from the Comp playing in the S+D league when available, and 23 players moving in the opposite direction. The scheme was particularly well used by players in the 14 to 17 age bracket.

The scheme, introduced to benefit both players wishing to play more cricket as well as clubs looking to field full strength teams, is to be continued next season.

15 year old Matthew Hayes from Orrell Red Triangle made the most of his dual registration with Norley Hall in the S+D league, turning out for their 2nd X1 on a Saturday and rattling up 348 runs in nine games. Subsequently promoted to their first team he found run scoring a little bit harder but has clearly benefitted from the opportunity and experience, as have Norley Hall, coincidentally promoted to the Liverpool Competition in 2019.

Chris Weston, Liverpool Competition Secretary, said “We are delighted. It is a simple process with the aim of helping both players and clubs. Those who have made use of it are pleased with the outcome and we look forward to extending its application in coming seasons”.
