SRI LANKA CRICKET KIT APPEAL

SRI LANKA CRICKET KIT APPEAL

Northern 2nd X1 Skipper collecting any unwanted kit.

Having recently returned to the UK after a number of years away living in Asia – I wanted to be able to do something, with your help, to assist the development of the game in areas where those less fortunate than us think of cricket as a religion!

Having had the luck and privilege to have travelled with business in the Indian Subcontinent and via membership of Hong Kong Cricket Club having played there also –  it is amazing to me how much cricket is played. In every school, in every play ground and more often than not on every waste ground and street corner you will see a game being played – 24/7

So – as we move towards the end of another season and we start emptying out our bags/ coffins of old, broken, smelly supposed unwanted kit - I can assure you there is a player in Sri Lanka who would really appreciate it!

Whilst the picture below shows juniors playing, it’s not just the kids who are without the necessary kit. In Sri Lanka it is commonplace for men and women club cricketers (up to playing in a Premier League/ Semi Professional equivalent standard) to only have 3 bats/ 3 gloves per team and to swop and change mid wicket.

What I am asking you to consider doing is -  at your clubs  - have a collection at your end of season awards nights / presentation nights of any/all unwanted gloves, pads, bats, whites (you can keep the boxes’ thanks!) and to let me know when done so.

I will arrange all collection and consolidate it all together and arrange for the shipment to Colombo.

I will be travelling there again in October and whilst there will arrange for distribution – through my company office in Sri Lanka (who have their own team!!)-  to those who need it most.

Between junior sections, 4’s, 3’s, 2’s and 1’s I am sure that each club can “Stump up” 5 bats/ pads/ gloves??? That’s over 150 sets of kit just from the Liverpool Competition!   This will be added to by the members of the Hong Kong Cricket Club and the Kowloon Cricket Club who are also taking part

So – as your considering trading in your old faithful V500 for a brand spanking new @ScorpionCricket  bat or a NDC for season 2014 – do please support what I think is a really good cause and give a little bit back to the game and its development in the Indian Subcontinent

The young and old cricketers of Sri Lanka will be so so grateful !!!!! Thanks very much
