2ND XI ROUND UP (JUNE 1st to 21st )

Date: 1st July 2015

BOOTLE, LIVERPOOL and SPRING VIEW table toppers –

Game of the week in Round 7 was the clash between the top two sides in the Premier Division, with Bootle hosting second place Wallasey. Put into bat, Bootle raced to 233 with Snellgrove's 44 being the best but all the top order made contributions. It was important that Wallasey didn’t lose the game and they batted out for the draw to remain just 9 points behind. Their efforts were somewhat spoiled when in the following game, Wallasey lost to Sefton Park as Ireland took 5/38 as they fell well short of the 201 run target. They returned to winning ways as David Miles scored 76* in their chase to reach another 200 target against Orrell. Meanwhile, Bootle strengthened their lead at the top with successive wins and now have a 30 point advantage. Eccles, Snellgrove and McDonald (in a 142 runs stand with Carr) with the best performances.

Birkenhead Park (who have won 4 successive games) and Ormskirk lead the chasing pack. Walker (118no) and Reid adding 116 for the 5th wkt for Park in week 8 victory over Northern. Other major performances include Macauley Lawrenson's 102  and 77 for Maghull, Cooper (Birkenhead) 91, Hine (Southport) 91, Tickle 86 for Orrell. Boardman and Howat are another pair to feature in a century stand (110 for Northern's 7th wicket). Bowling wise, several have claimed 5 wickets (full details are in the Play Cricket news items showing those who have attained “Roll of Honour” status). Orrell have moved above Fleetwood but both sides need to show improvement if they are to move out of the relegation places.

In Division One, Leigh, with four successive wins have replaced Rainford as the main rivals to overtake Liverpool at the head of the table. Hewitt with 80 against St Helens Town, and Smith (72 v Caldy) the main stand out performances with their wickets being spread out between Lewis Dove, Ben Smith and Daniel Hewitt and others as they have bowled out their opposition in each of the last three games. Liverpool featured in a tied game as Jared Clein capped off a remarkable performance by taking a return catch from Bullock (who top scored and looked to have given Rainhill victory) off his own bowling to end with 6/38 and leave Rainhill on level scores. Peter Tod with 91 no for Liverpool.  Wigan opener David Wood has featured into century opening stands (108 with Bradley and 105 with Ouwerkerk) and followed that up with a 69 stand.

Windell 89 and Cropper 83* have contributed big scores for Ainsdale, and the bowling performances were led by JM Jones who took 7/53 for Colwyn Bay,and Wigan's Hull (6/43).As in the Premier the   bottom two have swapped positions but Colwyn Bay and Caldy look to close on Newton le Willows.

Spring View remains in control of Division Two after batting out for a draw in the top of table clash against second place Northop Hall. David Hodgson, with 98 not out, running out of overs before the declaration came. He followed that with 67 no in the derby with Prestatyn in a stand worth 150 with Andrady (77).Vaish top scored with 72 for Spring View against Wavertree. Alder's Chris Spencer continues, arguably, to be the division best performer with 103 not out as he passes 400 runs and 20 wickets. His team mate Summers took 8/35 in the same game.as they recorded three wins in the period to move into third place.
