RAY TYLER - UPDATED

Date: 15th April 2016

It is with great sadness that we report that Liverpool’s Ray Tyler has passed away after a long illness which he fought bravely.

Ray was 93 and originally from Oakham, Rutland.

He came to Liverpool aged fifteen when his father, the former professional at Oakham School, came to Liverpool CC as both a professional cricketer and groundsman.

Ray first played for Liverpool’s 1st XI when he was 16 and he last played in their 3rd XI at the age of 73.

Ray was the captain of Liverpool for many years and also a former President of the L&DCC.

Ray was captain in 1959; in those days there were only sixteen L&DCC clubs and in that year Liverpool beat all fifteen other clubs in consecutive weeks, a wonderful and unique achievement that will always stand high.

Our condolences go Ray’s family and friends.

Ray's Funeral is on Thursday 28 April at Springwood Crematorium, Garston, L25 7UN AT 1pm..
