MERSYSIDE CRICKET SOCIETY
Hon. Secretary's Report 2016-17
Every year I start my report in the same way but I make no apology for it. From personal experience I know how difficult it has become to find interesting and entertaining speakers, yet every year Sue Grainger manages to provide the Society with a varied selection around the cricket theme. Last year was no exception so once again, on behalf of the Committee and members, thank you Sue.
Whilst on the subject of thanks, the Society expresses its gratitude to Sefton Park Cricket Club for its continued support of the Society.
Roy Penny, a longtime member of the Society, passed away recently and members would wish me to acknowledge Roy and express our sympathy to his family.
The Annual Dinner speaker this year should have been Mick Newell but he was taken ill and John Abrahams stepped in at the last moment. Those members and guests that attended were rewarded by a very entertaining talk ranging from personal highlights to Lancashire memories. Once again an excellent evening.
However, the Society faces falling membership and falling attendance at the Annual Dinner. Please introduce new members if you can. Personal recommendation is always the best way. This coming year we have Derek Randall, England and Notts CCC player as our speaker. Let's have a bumper number for this event.
Finally my thanks to the Committee for their help and support and to you, the members. Without your support the Society would not be enjoyable or a success.
Brian Cockrell Hon. Secretary
