CHANGES TO ECB COMPETITIONS PLAYER ELIGIBILITY REGULATIONS IN 2019

Full County Contracted players and Category 3 (Not Exempt) players now IN (Subject to conditions) Category 3 (Exempt) time period EASED:

We have received a recent letter from ECB stating:

"Since last summer there have been conversations ongoing with ECB Premier Leagues and other focus groups around the eligibility criteria for ECB club competitions, specifically the Royal London Club Championship and the Vitality Club T20.

Following these discussions, there will be a number of changes made to the eligibility regulations for the competitions for the 2019 season.

The principles applied to the eligibility criteria are pragmatic and make cricket:

  • Easier to administer by reducing the amount of rules & regulations
  • Regulations more closely aligned to the Professional Game
  • Closer aligned to the 'if you can play in the League you can also play in the Cup' approach
  • Player centric

Headline Proposed Changes:

  • Allowing one County registered and contracted player ( subject to conditions), with exceptions to Under 21 players ( subject to conditions)
  • Allowing one overseas (Cat 3) player.
  • Removal of Cat 3e classification, Cat 1 after three years. ( see actual wording)

We will be seeking out feedback on the changes to the regulations during the season."

These changes are stated more formally in the following extract from the new generic regulations for ECB club competitions in 2019:
