Harold Fairhurst Bullough

Date: 22nd January 2012

Wigan Cricket Club is saddened to report the death of their long-standing President.

Harold died peacefully on Tuesday 10 January in Wigan Infirmary in his 92ndyear.  He was associated with the Club for over sixty years playing the game he loved well into his seventies, after which he took up umpiring for the 2ndXI. (Like many club umpires he ‘took up the white coat when his eyes went’ – his words, not mine!)

Off the field, he held most offices at one time or another. He was an unstinting champion of junior cricket and was always ready and eager to give encouragement together with generous financial support. He pointed out at every available opportunity to anyone who would listen that junior cricket was the life-blood of club cricket.

The Wigan area has lost another stalwart who gave a tremendous amount of time and effort to the game he loved. Given his age, Harold was probably the last of that particular generation.  The number of those willing to ‘take the baton on’ is, I fear, diminishing.  It’s important that we do.

For those who knew HFB and those who didn’t, he was a great friend of Wigan Cricket Club and will be sorely missed.

The funeral service will take place at Wigan Parish Church at 11.30 am on Monday 23rdJanuary and will be followed by committal at Wigan Crematorium.
