Wilf Wooller was born in Rhos-on-Sea, played Cricket and Rugby at Rydal School and went on to be one of the youngest players in the Wales Rugby XV, captained Glamorgan Cricket Club, played football for Cardiff City and squash for Wales. He was also a Japanese POW, and later a broadcaster and cricket administrator.
