West Indian leg spinner and top order batsman Shervon Jean is almost certain to be playing for Southport and Birkdale in the ECB Premier League this season.

The St Lucia Under 19 cricketer replaces Jay Lenton who was prevented from playing in England this summer by New South Wales officials who wished him to train with the state squad in the Australian winter.

S&B skipper Chris Firth was pleased that a substitute for Lenton had been found so quickly. "It was disappointing not to get Jay over but it's also good to get a replacement who looks to have a bit of talent and quality about him," he said. Jean's arrival is dependent upon his being given a visa.
