A number of outstanding cricketers have played at Rake Lane over the years and New Brighton skipper Louis Botes is hoping that Lancashire's Luke Procter will be mentioned in the same breath as most of them when the 2013 season is finished.
The Wirral club has signed the all-rounder for this campaign and Botes is hopeful that he will be able to play as many as ten or eleven league games in the course of the season.
"We're delighted to have secured Luke's signature and we're looking to him to make a major contribution with bat and ball," said Botes
Procter joins Adnan Ghaus as a new face at Rake Lane, with the pair's arrival balancing the departures of Martyn Evans and Matty Thompson. Veteran Lawrence Wilson will also be playing at New Brighton this year and the club is also in the final stages of negotiations for a high-profile overseas professional.
"I'm quite happy with the way things are developing," said Botes. "As long as we're competitive, that's the important thing."
"Our wicketkeeper will be Matty Climo and of course we still have players of the quality of Ashraf Nawab and the While brothers at the club," said Botes. "We're also hoping to get Michael Hughes to play more first eleven cricket but that will be dependent on his availability."
