MCC RETURNS TO TRAFALGAR ROAD AND S&B TOMORROW

...to take on Tatenda Taibu's Zimbabwe Rising Stars XI, the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy.

MCC returns to Trafalgar Road tomorrow (Thursday 10th August 11.00am ) to take on Tatenda Taibu's Zimbabwe Rising Stars XI, the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy.

Their squad includes players who have experienced some first class cricket in Zimbabwe, while there are a small number who have played U19s and represented the full National side, such as Ryan Burl and Tarisai Musakanda, who played in the recent Test Match in Sri Lanka.

Results so far have seen notable victories against Surrey 2nd XI and a number of top club and academy sides.

Tatenda Taibu said: "The MCC match is undoubtedly the highlight of the tour and we are extremely grateful to be offered such a prestigious fixture. Our thanks go to the MCC and of course Southport & Birkdale CC for helping us to stage this match. The players are really looking forward to an excellent contest."

This will be MCC's first visit to S&B since the Club's 150th anniversary fixture in 2009 and with the match designated as a Secretary's game there will be some very good players on show.

Club Chairman Tony Elwood said "S&B is proud to have been asked to stage this fixture which, as an MCC Secretary's game is on a par with their matches against Scotland, Wales and the first class universities etc., and should feature some of its top playing members. We very much look forward to welcoming the Rising Starsalso and applaud Tatenda Taibu's initiative in setting up the academy programme in the UK to take forward the cause of Zimbabwe cricket."

Play is scheduled to start at 11.00 a.m., and the bar will be open with the usual catering options available.
