A CELEBRATION OF WOMEN'S and GIRLS CRICKET IN THE COMP.

Hightown Hurricanes share a video diary of their fantastic year.

This is the story of Women’s and Girls Cricket in the Liverpool Competition coming from nowhere just under two years ago, to today, with 16 Clubs (and still growing) playing competitive Women’s and Girls Cricket.

One of the clubs, Hightown St Mary’s, have produced a great example of their formation, celebrating the recent year of their achievements and experiences in a video. Under the name Hightown Hurricanes, they have taken part in indoor and outdoor tournaments against other enthusiastically named outfits such as the Northern Ninjas and Firwood Bootle Belles as well as reached out to schools in their community.

Somewhat later than other parts of Lancashire it all started in the spring of 2018 with the appointment by the Management Committee of a Women’s and Girls Cricket Officer, a voluntary position, taken up by Paul Bate. Since that time Paul has worked closely with and benefitted from the help of Lancashire Cricket’s Jen Barden and Julie Durrant and together they are now responsible for well over 200 Women and Girls playing and enjoying the game throughout Merseyside and beyond.  Paul is now a full member of the League Management Committee and in January of this year received a Lancashire Cricket Special Award for his efforts from Paul Allott, Lancashire’s Director of Cricket.

So with thanks to all the Women and Girls and their clubs  - enjoy:
