CAN YOU HELP A LIVERPOOL HOPE MASTERS STUDENT WITH HIS PROJECT?

Date: 13th February 2015

Calling all bowlers.

I am a Masters student at Liverpool Hope University studying 'Skill Acquisition and Human Movement Science.' My undergraduate degree was completed at the University of Sussex in Neuroscience with Cognitive Science.

I am currently looking to recruit pace and spin bowlers of different abilities to take part in a research project. The first stage of the project will be examining the difference in gaze strategies for expert and novice bowlers.

In a number of settings, from sports to surgery, previous research has continually shown that there are noticeable differences in the gaze behaviour exhibited by experts when compared to novices and amateurs. Once the differences have been found, amateurs and novices that undergo a training plan based around these findings have been shown to dramatically improve their performance. Furthermore when experts undergo a similar training plan their performance becomes more robust and less likely to break down under pressure. The training plan would form the second stage of this project

The initial stage of this project will involve the participant wearing a mobile eye tracking device whilst they bowl a set number of balls, this is likely to take place at Liverpool Hope University.

I am looking for male and female participants over the age of 18, if you could pass this on to your clubs/players or any other potentially interested parties I would be very grateful.

If you would like some more information about this project please contact me at my email address - 14012003@hope.ac.uk or my research twitter account - @James__Lally

Thank you for your time,

James Lally
