HUGH HUNTER RIP

Tribute to much loved long serving S+D man.

We are sad to report the passing of Southport and District Amateur Cricket’ Leagues long time Registration Secretary, Hugh Hunter (91).

Players and officials from the Southport League’s days from the 1960’s onwards will remember Hughie’s briefcase stuffed with registration cards, a faultless system policed by him without the aid of any technical intervention. He also undertook countless other tasks within the League.

Hughie’s club was Mawdesley, where he played before becoming Secretary in 1958 a role he continued until he became Chairman in 1988 and then President from 1996 to 2006.

Hughie was a much respected cricket man who gave more than plenty back to the game that he loved.
