SEASON GOES AHEAD ON SATURDAY

Date: 13th April 2023

Wishing all players, umpires, scorers, club officials and supporters an enjoyable and successful season

SEASON 2023 MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE STATEMENT

We confirm that the 2023 Liverpool and District Cricket Competition season will commence on Saturday 15 April as planned. Whilst being well aware of the difficulties faced by clubs in preparing grounds in a difficult winter and spring and mindful of the poor current and forecast weather this week we have also considered the following:

  • The forecast weather across Merseyside for Saturday is good.
  • As reported at the SGM on 4 April just one club had enquired about a possible delay. At the meeting there were no adverse comments put forward in respect of the planned start.
  • A significant number of friendly matches were played over the last weekend.
  • Since then the Committee has received one enquiry about what would happen if their ground was unfit this coming weekend and one indication that a club may not be ready.

PLEASE NOTE- paragraph 5.5 from the 2023 Handbook applies:

5.5 Abandoned matches:

5.5.1 Matches abandoned without a ball being bowled will be regarded as ‘abandoned’ and each team will be awarded 5 points.

5.5.2 Sunday 3rd XI matches which cannot be rearranged because of ground non-availability, see Clause 1.3.3 above, will be regarded as ‘abandoned’

5.5.3 Matches abandoned after the start due to weather and/or light conditions will be regarded as ‘no decision’. In ‘no decision’ matches each team will be awarded 5 points or will retain its bonus points gained (if more than 5) if 15 overs or more of the second innings have been completed.

PLEASE NOTE

The 2023 HANDBOOK has now been updated and can be accessed on the www.lpoolcomp.co.uk website.
