HASEEB HAMEED'S BRILLIANT DEBUT. Well done from all in the Comp.

Date: 14th November 2016

HASEEB HAMEED'S BRILLIANT DEBUT. Well done from all in the Comp.

Formby skipper Ian Cockbain full of praise.

The Liverpool and District Cricket Competition adds its congratulations to young Haseeb Hameed on his magnificent debut for England in India.

Although appearing to come out of nowhere to many observers, Haseeb’s performance, although probably surpassing expectations, will have been no great surprise to all those involved in his development in the Lancashire Junior system from age 9, through the County Academy and then into the Lancashire 1st X1. No doubt his friends and colleagues at Tonge and Farnworth Social Circle Cricket Clubs, particularly the latter, where he spent his formative club cricket years, will have the same view.

Haseeb then continued his Club Cricket development moving into the ECB Premier Leagues with a season at Northwich in the Cheshire County League and the last two seasons with Formby in the Liverpool District Cricket Competition, helping them to a creditable second place finish in 2016.

Like the rest of his club and most of Lancashire, Formby skipper Ian Cockbain (Snr) watched the youngster’s test debut with great anticipation. “It’s fair to say that we all thought Haseeb would definitely play for England but didn’t think it would be as soon as this” he said. “Watching him he seemed perfectly at home and incredibly, looked as though he had been playing at that level all his life, It was brilliant and I’m so pleased for Haseeb and all his family”.
