A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT AT THE APPROACH OF SEASON 2021

April at last and we are to have cricket!

Proper, traditional Competition cricket, the sort I was weaned on.

I can think of many people who will be pleased that we have stuck to the old ways, none more so than those who prefer a more positive and cerebral game.

At this time of year, young cricketers dream of glory and days in the sun. Older cricketers try to reproduce the best days they ever had and forget the failures. The ancients nurse their stiffening limbs, remember friendships gained and friends sadly lost and the beauty of a cover drive by Tom Graveney.

Such is the pageant of cricket and long may it continue.

Neville Cardus once wrote “ There will be no summer in England without cricket.” One follows the other, we have cricket, so enjoy.!
