GIRLS U10 SOFTBALL FESTIVAL HAILED AS A GREAT SUCCESS

Next one on 4 July

Following on from the magnificent development of Women’s Cricket within the Liverpool and District Competition, well supported by the Lancashire Cricket Foundation, the League is now focusing on Girls cricket, particularly at a young age.

To this end, two U10 Softball Festivals are being staged this summer, the first of which took place at Northern Cricket Club on 16 June.

85 girls from nine clubs, Liverpool, Wavertree, Fleetwood Hesketh, Bootle, Northern, Rainhill, Sefton Park, Hightown and Formby took part. The players came from a variety of starting points including through AllStars, Dynamos, Club U9’s and those with no experience at all.

The event emphasised participation over competitiveness with scores used only for each club’s own information. Each team is looked after by a qualified coach with awards presented to the Player of each Team together with a number of Magic Moment special awards. These included a player taking a great catch against her friend; a player showing her Dad how to hit a four properly; and a player taking her first ever wicket.

Liz Sinker, one of the League’s leads on Women’s and Girls Cricket said “The event exceeded expectations. There was a supportive atmosphere throughout with massive enthusiasm from the girls who were a credit to their coaches and parents. Everyone enjoyed it and we can’t wait for the next one”
