SEFTON PARK take 2022 Liverpool Competition Women's Indoor Title

Lancashire and NW Thunder's Natalie Brown was on hand to present medals to all finalists including Northern, Upton and Liverpool

Sunday (27 March) saw the culmination of the 2022 Women's Indoor Tournament, with Sefton Park lifting the trophy in what was their first outing in the annual competition.

The tournament, held over 4 weeks at Toxteth Firefit, involved 15 teams playing 44 fixtures. The final saw Sefton Park defeating reigning champions Northern Ladies by 18 runs. These two teams had already met earlier in the day taking part in a remarkable match, with a wicket falling on the last ball of Northern's run chase resulting in the game being tied.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Sefton's tight bowling and fielding restricted the scoring, and with 3 wickets coming at important points in the innings, a target of 209 to win was set. Sefton were similarly restricted by Northern and at the half way point, were 205 having lost 1 wicket. Overs 4 and 5 though turned things the way of the Liverpool side with 18 runs and no dismissals. The last over saw skipper Sarah Jackson calmly seeing her team over the line.

In the Third Place Play Off, Upton, also in their first outing in the competition, defeated Liverpool by 33 runs to take the bronze medal spot. .

The games topped off a fantastic day's cricket and brought an end to a wonderful tournament, is now firmly and officially established in the League's calendar. It is the perfect appetiser to the outdoor season of Affiliated League Cricket which this year sees a further expansion across all formats in the Comp’s Women’s and Girls Programme.

We were delighted to welcome Lancashire and North West Thunder player Natalie Brown to present the medals and trophy, generously staying behind afterwards to chat with the players, creating a further highlight to the day.
